✧Sustainability & Transparency

Sol Grown is a small independent art business currently operated by one artist, which means my sustainability practices are constantly evolving as I grow. I do not claim to be a perfectly sustainable brand, and I never want to use sustainability as a marketing tactic or participate in greenwashing. I have a degree in Social Entrepreneurship, and I have studied sustainability and ethical business systems. I have a deep love for the earth and the ocean and truly value treating the world around us with care.

✧With my knowledge and understanding I believe in being transparent about where I currently am and what I am actively improving while acknowledging the limitations that exist within running a small business under capitalism.

✧My approach to sustainability is centered around intentional consumption, reducing waste where possible and creating products with long-term emotional value rather than disposable trend culture. I value creating intentional experiences that are made to grow with you over time instead of quick disposable and low-quality trends.

One of the biggest ways Sol Grown reduces environmental impact is through a digital-first model. Digital products eliminate shipping emissions, excess packaging, and overproduction entirely. I will consistently prioritize and promote doing digital first products to keep emissions lower. When possible, I encourage downloading or printing at home as the lowest-waste option currently available through my work.

I understand that different learning styles and accessibility needs may require physical products in order for the work to feel functional, tangible, or supportive. Physical items are still offered in ways that aim to reduce unnecessary waste.

For physical products items are made-to-order or produced in small batches to help reduce unnecessary inventory waste and overconsumption. I intentionally avoid large-scale overstocking practices that often lead to excess products being discarded.

✧Because accessibility is important to me, I also try to balance sustainability with affordability. Eco-friendly materials and ethical production methods are often more expensive, and while I aim to improve sourcing over time, I never want sustainability to become something only the very financially privileged people can access.

✧I will continue to update this over time to share progress and transparency

:) Chloe
