✧A Creative Way of Being

✧A Creative Way of Being

Chloe C

Creation is a practice. Everyone has their own unique way of creating and expressing themselves.

I'm sharing this in hopes that you will see some of the ways I continue to have art as a mindful practice and a few of the methods I use to keep my passion for exploration through creation active.

My "art" is in the format of visual multimedia. While I refer to art as that, please use my creative practice and apply it to your own forms of art and expression.

✧ The Practice✧

Every creative practice looks different, and the goals and feelings are unique to each person. When I was little, I constantly was wondering why and asking questions that no one had the answers for. So, I treat my creative practice as a way to explore the mysteries of life, truths and connections.

My creative process encompasses more than just how I create physical items. It is a direct reflection of how I live my life and what I believe in. My art is a mirror to my inner world and my way to process reality.

I treat my art form as a way of connection to the universe, my own spirituality and self-growth.

✧ Embracing Artistic Evolution✧

I make a lot of mistakes in my process. They are unavoidable but create something undeniably unique. As my process has evolved, I've learned to frame mistakes as discoveries to guide the evolution of the work.

Allowing myself to make free artistic choices is a radical act of self-acceptance. It becomes a way to document my own emotional experience without judgement. Using art as a means of transformation allows something new to emerge as a living creation. It's a collection of the shapes and textures of my lived experiences. Reflecting the art of transformation allows something new to emerge as a living creation.

✧ Disconnecting from the Outcome✧

My art comes from an intuitive space in my subconscious mind, a space where preverbal thoughts find form. Rather than planning and imposing structure when I begin making art, I use automatic drawing techniques to use art as meditation. I often begin my process with layers of seemingly random textures and shapes to help me disconnect from the outcome.

When creating I have no clear end point, I just continue to play and manipulate the piece until I feel a stopping point. I let my hands move faster than my head so that I can submit to the process instead of controlling where it goes.

It allows me to create from a place of authenticity rather than performance.

Create your own way ✧

Each person has such a unique perspective on life, whether your medium is dancing, singing, mark making every single expression of your experience is important. Don’t tie your creations and expressions to the judgment of others but create for the sake of discovering something inside of yourself. I believe in you. Connect with the part of you that existed as a child, without judgment and with the freedom to believe that anything is truly possible.

✧ What It Means to Me✧

Art allows me to hold the contradictions of life inside of myself and in my work. It allows me to capture a small moment in the vastness we exist in. It not only allows me to transmute my pain, my beauty, my joy and sorrow but keep it alive forever, rooted in our shared humanity. Art allows me to understand within the chaos there is beauty. Art is my dedication to softness and beauty as a rebellion against this harsh world.
